Gergely Mohl (Hungary)

Gergely Mohl is an esteemed chamber musician and cello teacher. He has been solo cellist at the Oper Graz and member of the Grazer Philharmoniker since 2007 and has given regular guest performances with other renowned orchestras. For example, he played several concerts as the first solo cellist of the Wiener Symphoniker in 2012. Since 2013, he has been leading the section rehearsals for violoncellos at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz.

Gergely Mohl was born in Szombathely (Hungary) and received his first cello lessons at the age of six. He won the Hungarian national competition twice: first in Szolnok in 1994 and then in Kecskemét four years later. After completing his school-leaving examination at the secondary school of music in Szombathely, he studied with Wolfgang Herzer at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Only two years later, Mohl started to perform regularly as a substitute musician with the Vienna Philharmonic orchestra at the Wiener Staatsoper. He took master classes with renowned professors and soloists, including Mstislav Rostropovich, Jens Peter Maintz and Wolfgang Boettcher. In 2005, Mohl won both the “Super-Solo” special award at the Markneukirchen International Instrumental Competition and an advancement award at the “Gradus ad Parnassum” competition.
